I love using long lenses to photograph air shows. But your shots are excellent putting things into context. Also totally agree with your final statement.
I used to have a (I think) 70-300mm lens for my Nikon D50 many years ago, and I used to love taking it to the airplane observation park near BWI airport to photograph planes coming and going. Kinda wish I still had it...
But yes! I was very interested in how these planes looked against the backdrop of the city. It was an interesting friction of old and new, for sure.
